Back-To-School Series #1: I Don't Want This School Year to Be Like Last Year

How to make this school year different!

If you're counting down to the first day of school with more anxiety than excitement, you are not alone.

It is time to finally normalize the struggle that many parents and children face in our current educational system! All parents want their child to get a good education and succeed but school is often a place where children lose confidence because they are compared to one another and parents feel helpless because they do not know how to get their child the support they need to succeed.

In this blog post, I want to share some tips to help you get ready for the new school year with more confidence and intention. I want you to think of this school year as an opportunity! Let's make this school year the year that we find the answers and break the cycle!

ASK YOURSELF, "What did last year teach us?"

Instead of trying to forget last year, use it! Think about the patterns you noticed.

These observations are valuable. They help you to understand how your child learns!

3 Things That YOU Can Do Right NOW!

These 3 tips can help at the start of a new school year or if you need a reset during the school year.

1) Make a "Success List"

Write down 3 things that helped your child (routines, strategies, supports, environments, etc.)

2) Make a "Stress List"

Be honest about what consistently led to frustration or shut downs (transitions, organization, math, reading, tests, etc.)

3) Start the Convo Early

During the first 2 weeks of school, send your child's teacher a brief email sharing what motivates your child, what helped last year, and what they struggle with
